If you find an account, balance, payment status, or enquiry that looks wrong, first compare it with your loan statements and other records. A credit report is assembled from information supplied by lenders and other credit institutions, so the organisation that supplied the entry may need to investigate it.
Steps to take
- Download a fresh report from the relevant credit bureau and note the report date and reference number.
- Identify the exact entry and describe what you believe is inaccurate. Keep the explanation factual.
- Collect supporting records, such as payment receipts, account statements, closure letters, or identity-theft reports. Share only what the official channel requests.
- Raise the dispute with the lender or credit institution and the bureau using their official complaint channel. Save the acknowledgement and reference number.
- Check the response and obtain an updated report. If the issue remains unresolved, follow the applicable grievance route described by the bureau and RBI.
A dispute asks the data provider to verify or correct information; it does not guarantee that an entry will be removed or that a score will change. ScoreCare does not control a lender's or bureau's decision. Check current service fees and terms before buying any outside assistance.
